Elevating the Holiday Table Setting with Citrus Charm
As the holiday season approaches, infuse your gatherings with the warmth and vibrancy of Sicilian tradition through the art of table setting. Here is how the citrus arrangements inspired by my Sicilian roots can add a touch of Mediterranean elegance to your festive celebrations.
In Sicilian culture, citrus fruits, particularly oranges, have come to symbolize prosperity and good fortune. The vibrant colors of oranges are associated with positive energy, abundance, and the warmth of the sun, which is plentiful in Sicily.
During the winter months, Sicily comes alive with the peak of citrus groves, infusing our culture with their zest and colors. As a Sicilian tradition, a table is set, and the flavorful and abundant oranges must not be absent from it.
My table is consistently adorned with a citrus floral arrangement, skillfully incorporating elements of lush greenery and abundant oranges. I enhance the ambiance further by including the signature candle from Zagara Home, named Zagara. Additionally, I adorn the setting with small vases featuring the Testa di Moro, Ciccio and Cicoria.
Other integral components of my holiday table setting include the linens and the tableware—china, silverware, and glasses. I take pride in consistently decorating my table with exquisite Italian tablecloths and napkins from the Zagara Home collections. Crafted in Tuscany by one of the oldest mills, these linens add a touch of authenticity and timeless elegance to the setting. Napkin rings always accent the napkins, part of the OL X ZagaraHome collection. My china, silverware, and crystal ware hold sentimental value as they were part of my wedding collection. Each piece tells a story, contributing to the warmth and cherished memories that surround my holiday gatherings.
Citrus fruits play a pivotal role in Sicilian cuisine, imparting unique flavors and elevating dishes. One Christmas menu staple is the orange and fennel salad, and you can find the recipe in the next blog post. Additionally, renowned Sicilian desserts like cannoli and cassata often embrace citrus flavors, resulting in a harmonious blend of sweetness and tanginess. Collectively, citrus fruits contribute significantly to the distinctive and delightful taste profile that characterizes Sicilian culinary traditions.
